When people start the counseling process, based on their presenting problem, we strive to understand the problem comprehensively. This may involve psychiatric diagnostic testing, reviewing previous treatments, medical history, family system-patterns, personality, self-care habits such as sleep, exercise, nutrition & social support.
- Diagnosis & Treatment Planning: Upon meeting with individuals Dr. Giordano strives to understand their presenting problem. Diagnosing the problem may involve a structured diagnostic interview, reviewing previous treatments, medical history, family system-patterns, personality, self-care habits such as sleep, exercise, nutrition & social support. The results of this process are then examined and used to wholistically understand the presenting problem, and develop a comprehensive treatment plan for meaningful, lasting change. - Individual Counseling: Individuals meet regularly to learn self-management skills to address identified problems, which they will practice between sessions, collecting data, and reviewing with Dr. Giordano. Individuals’ challenges are compassionately understood, adjustments are made, and additional skills are taught until treatment goals are met.
- Couple/Family Counseling: Dr. Giordano meets with the family together and individually to gather each individual’s perspective on the problem. A treatment plan is established with measurable goals. Family members meet with Dr. Giordano individually and together to learn and practice skills and other interventions between sessions. Dr. Giordano reviews and adjusts the interventions with individuals and families until the treatment goals are met.
